Before becoming a Professional Organizer, I spent 20 years in the Canadian Armed Forces! As an Aviation Technician, I was responsible for keeping aircraft like the F-18 (my favorite!) in top shape, with a special fondness for the Snowbirds. Based at 15 Wing Moose Jaw in my childhood home province of Saskatchewan, the Snowbirds hold a special place in my heart.
My military journey began at 17 when I joined the cadets, followed by the reserves at 18. As a result, frequent moves became a regular part of my life. And let me tell you, after a while, packing and unpacking in small spaces becomes an art form! Military life also gave me a deep understanding of the challenges individuals and families face when relocating, especially under stressful circumstances.
One unforgettable experience was during 9/11, when I was nine months pregnant with my first daughter. The events of that day changed our world, reinforcing the importance of organization and having a system in place for those unexpected, high-stress moments.
The History and Evolution of the Royal Canadian Air Force
Here’s a fun fact: On February 23, 1909, Alexander Graham Bell’s Silver Dart made the first powered flight in Canada and the British Empire from Bras d’Or Lake in Nova Scotia. The Royal Canadian Air Force traces its origins to 1914, when the Canadian Aviation Corps was formed and attached to the Canadian Expeditionary Force during WWI.
After several restructuring phases, the RCAF was officially established in 1924. Today, it is one of the three commands of the Canadian Forces, with a rich history of service in WWII, the Korean War, peacekeeping missions, and NATO operations.
From the Military to Project Management and Organizing
After retiring from the military, I transitioned into project management, earning a Master Certification in Project Management from Carleton University, and completing the Trained Professional Organizer program through Professional Organizers in Canada (POC). These qualifications allowed me to pursue a rewarding career in professional organizing.

Tips for a Less Stressful Move
Here’s a golden nugget for anyone facing a move: checklists! Whether you’re moving across town or just sorting through your things, having a checklist helps you stay organized and on track. Write it down, cross things off, and avoid those sleepless nights worrying about what you might have forgotten.
Discounts for Military Families
As a military spouse myself, I understand the unique challenges military families face. To show my appreciation, I offer a discount on all organizing services for military personnel and their families. Be sure to mention your military status when reaching out to book a service!
Helping You Conquer Small Spaces
Military housing can be compact, and I’ve helped many clients maximize their space. The key is finding the right storage solutions – drawer inserts, dividers, and containers can make all the difference. Don’t hesitate to get creative or reach out for help! We’re familiar with many military housing locations, including 12 Wing Shearwater, CFB Windsor Park Halifax, and 14 Wing Greenwood. In fact, Shearwater’s history is deeply tied to the growth of Canada’s Air Force. Celebrating its 100th anniversary as an air base in 2018, 12 Wing Shearwater is one of the oldest military airfields in Canada, second only to CFB Borden.
Declutter for Peace of Mind
Decluttering is key, especially in small spaces. Getting rid of things, you no longer need not only frees up space but also creates a sense of calm. It’s like a weight lifted off your shoulders!
Professional Organizers in Canada: A Supportive Network
POC has been an incredible resource, offering a strong community of support, resources, and networking opportunities. As a member, I’ve gained access to business templates, training, and connections with fellow organizers. I’ve been a dedicated volunteer since 2016 and a board member since 2018, contributing to POC’s growth and success. I’m truly passionate about the organizing industry and its global impact on helping people.
